Blue Spikers end bittersweet season
THE ATENEO Blue Spikers may not have reached their goal of making it to the Final Four, but they definitely gained a lot from this UAAP season.
“The team is very disappointed that we were not able to reach the Final Four this season especially for our super seniors who are playing their last year for the team,” said captain Timothy Sto. Tomas (IV AB PoS).
However, it was not entirely a bad season for the men’s volleyball team. Despite notching only two wins, they proved that they are one of the teams to look out for next year.
As Julborg Africa (I BS ECE) put: “Years back, when the other teams hear ‘Ateneo,’ they just take it for granted.
“Now they prepare for us. This is our statement not for this year, but for next year,” he said.
Sto. Tomas added that this season served as another learning experience for the lowerclassmen.
“We have to learn as soon as possible our strengths so we can utilize it more and find our weaknesses so we could do something about it,” he explained.
The Blue Spikers’ second round in Season 70 went down in the following fashion: They lost last February 10 to the University of the East, 3-1; last February 7 to the University of the Phlippines, 3-1; and last February 2 to Adamson University, 3-1. University of Santo Tomas formally eliminated them from the Final Four last January 26 via a sweep. Prior to that, the Blue Spikers lost, 3-2, to La Salle on January 23, 3-2; won against UE, 3-0, on January 19 and lost to NU, 3-0, on January 12.
